Although there is no known cure for the Herpes Simplex Type 1 Virus people have tried a number of alternative therapies to relieve the symptoms of cold sores. A recent unofficial survey of cold sore sufferers revealed that many have tried using ice, cold compresses, and/or tea bags to cool their burning blisters. This may temporarily relieve the pain of the cold sore, although it doesn't affect the virus itself.Others have used over-the-counter oral anesthetics to numb the sore and its surrounding areas. Again, this method may provide temporary pain relief, but can only be considered as a treatment for relief of cold sore symptoms rather than the sores themselves. While there have been various alternative treatments attempted by cold sore sufferers throughout the years, there is no medical proof of their success in healing cold sores. While there is no harm in trying these methods, you should consult a physician or dentist before undergoing any alternative therapies. |
